It’s a non-conference tilt on the gridiron up in the Dairy State for week 2 of the college football slate. The New Mexico Lobos are on the road as they make the trip to face the #4 Wisconsin Badgers Saturday afternoon. New Mexico opened their season with a 62-30 win over Incarnate Word at home last Saturday. Wisconsin rolled over Western Kentucky 34-3 at home in their opening game of the season last Friday night. This marks the first time that the two schools have met on the gridiron as FBS opponents.

New Mexico managed to open the season with a win but they have to go into a hostile environment for this one. The Lobos trailed 7-0 early before reeling off 28 unanswered points to take a 28-7 edge after the first quarter. After seeing Incarnate Word cut the lead to 28-16, New Mexico ran off 27 more points in a row to put things away.

After beating FCS school Incarnate Word, New Mexico’s new pass-happy offense faces a much stiffer test on the road. Wisconsin might want to get off to a cleaner start on offense as it plays the second of three straight nonconference tuneups at home. The Badgers won their opener by 31, but didn’t get the thorough, beginning-to-end blowout that might be expected of a top-five team against Western Kentucky. It could happen on Saturday.

It wasn’t near good enough on defense,” Davie said. “We’ve got to take this personal. We’ve got to bounce back. We need to clean this up and move forward, because I know we can play better.

New Mexico passing game vs. Wisconsin secondary. More on-the-job training for a defensive backfield with three first-year starters. The Lobos went into this season determined to open up the offense. They had seven pass plays of 30 yards or more last week, just three short of their total for all of 2018. The Badgers’ strength on defense is up the middle, so probing the perimeter and taking shots down field isn’t a bad idea.

TCU vs SMU : At some point in each program’s respective histories, both SMU and TCU have staked a claim as the best team in Texas. But while the Horned Frogs built their own road to the Big 12, the Mustangs have languished — and you don’t have to go much farther than last week’s 46-23 loss to North Texas for proof.

TCU vs SMU Live

But Southern Methodist can make a statement Friday when these two teams write the next chapter in a longtime Lone Star State rivalry. TCU has won six straight games against its Dallas foe and 10 of the last 11 matchups between these teams. Unless Sonny Dykes can make a rapid turnaround from Week 1, it’ll soon become 11 of 12.

Week 2 in college football kicks off on Friday night with No.16 TCU visiting SMU in the 98th edition of The Battle for the Iron Skillet.

<<WATCH NOW>>

TCU opened the season with a 55-7 defeat over Southern University last Saturday. The Frogs’ new starting quarterback, sophomore Shawn Robinson, threw three touchdown passes and ran for four more.

SMU’s season-opener didn’t go quite as well. They suffered a 46-23 loss at North Texas. The Mustangs, down 36-0, failed to score until halway through the fourth quarter. With 14 of its starters returning from last year, SMU should be able to put the loss behind them and move forward.

The rivalry is still strong between the Texas schools. Last year, TCU beat SMU 56-36 after a strong performance in the second half. SMU was up 19-7 early in the second quarter, but the Frogs battled to take the lead heading into halftime. With a Hail Mary pass on the last play of the first half, wide receiver Jalen Reagor caught the pass for a touchdown, putting TCU up 28-22 at the half.

No. 16 TCU and SMU will battle for the Iron Skillet like they do every year. However, this cross-town rivalry shows two programs in different places. TCU is nationally ranked and has a huge showdown vs. Ohio State in Week 3. Should the Horned Frogs upset the Buckeyes, they’ll be viewed differently in the playoff conversation.

SMU, meanwhile, is starting its first full year under coach Sonny Dykes, and the schedule isn’t conducive for making a bowl game. Can TCU handle its business or will SMU make things interesting in Dallas?

TCU vs SMU: Week 2 in college football kicks off on Friday night with No.16 TCU visiting SMU in the 98th edition of The Battle for the Iron Skillet. When it comes to college football rivalries, few compare to the one TCU and SMU share. For over a century, these squads have vied for north Texas supremacy. On Friday, they renew the rivalry for the 98th time at 8 p.m. ET from Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas when the Southern Methodist Mustangs host the Texas Christian Horned Frogs. The winner gains ownership of the coveted Iron Skillet. While TCU was crushing Southern 55-7 last week, SMU was getting walloped 46-23 by North Texas. The Horned Frogs opened as 19-point road favorites and are now favored

by 22.5. The over-under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, has dropped from 61 to 58.5.

But before you make your TCU vs. SMU picks, you need to hear what SportsLine college football expert Micah Roberts has to say. The SportsLine expert has worked in the Las Vegas sportsbook industry for 20 years, including a 13-year run as Station Casino’s book director. Armed with an unmatched network of sources, Roberts has crushed college football for SportsLine members, going 70-44 during the 2016 season.

Loaded with decades of college football expertise, Roberts is a perfect 5-0 in his previous five Horned Frogs selections. Now, he has scrutinized TCU vs. SMU from every possible angle to reveal a strong point-spread pick that he’s only sharing at SportsLine.

Roberts knows TCU did everything right last week against the FCS Jaguars. After a dominating first half in which it led 38-7, it was able to give backups some much-needed, real-game reps. Quarterback Shawn Robinson was done for the day at halftime, going 17 for 24 for 182 yards and three touchdowns. For good measure, he also took off for two rushing touchdowns from nine and 36 yards out.

While the Frogs’ offense was rolling, the defense was the real star of Saturday’s show. Safeties Ridwan Issahaku and Innis Gaines each came up with picks to kill any Southern momentum. TCU also held the Jaguars to 185 yards of offense and nine first downs. If the Horned Frogs expect to beat SMU, the secondary must come up big again.

But just because TCU rolled last week doesn’t mean they’ll cover a three-touchdown spread on Friday. SMU has its own share of offensive weapons that are capable of quick strikes at any time. The Mustangs finally began clicking in the fourth quarter last week, compiling 23 points in the period.

Quarterback Ben Hicks struggled most of the contest, connecting on 50 percent of his passes for 252 yards, but he did have two long touchdown passes. Wideout James Proche caught just two balls, but one was for a 59-yard touchdown. Running back Braeden West, who scampered for a score from five yards out, also hauled in a 71-yard reception to keep his squad in contention.

We can tell you Roberts is leaning toward the Over, but he has uncovered a crucial x-factor that he knows will determine the spread outcome of this game — and he’s only sharing it over at SportsLine.
